‘A’ is 31 years of age and lives in the Whitlawburn area of Cambuslang which is the worst affected SIMD area within South Lanarkshire. ‘A’ was well known to the local police and his community for all the wrong reasons.

The following Cost Benefit Analysis is based on his convictions from 27th December 2001 when ‘A’  became an adult under Scots Law:-

‘A’ has been convicted of 42 crimes and offences. 39 of these crimes/offences have been allocated a known cost to society as part of a Scottish Government approved ‘Cost Benefit Analysis’ study provided by the Scottish Community Safety Network based on the Home Office 217 Report ‘The Economical and Social Costs of Crime’.

Prior to ‘A’ attending at Moving the Goalposts (MTGP), he had been convicted of a total of 40 crimes ranging from breach of the peace, possession of knives and offensive weapons, possession of drugs, various types of theft, housebreaking, assault and serious assault to permanent disfigurement. He had been convicted to serve a total of 7 terms of imprisonment serving a total of 4 years and 4 months.

‘A’ began to attend MTGP following his last release from prison in 2011. He quickly became a regular attendee and a member of the Whitlawburn area team that competed in the MTGP ‘Choose Life Community League’ at Over 16 level.

‘A’  became a father and through the support and assistance of the coaches, reduced his offending to date to just 2 incidents relating to a breach of the peace and an offence under the Telecommunications Act, both of which were committed shortly after his last release from prison prior to attending at MTGP.
