Ashley has been attending MTGP whilst it was in the Hareleeshill area of Larkhall for more than 6 years. When she first attended at MTGP she had never played football before and had no interest in playing football. Over the years Ashley discovered the joys and benefits of playing football and with the help and assistance of the coaches has displayed great ability, enthusiasm and talent.
MTGP coaches helped and encouraged Ashley to develop her football knowledge, skills and fitness. She went onto join a local ladies football team. Ashley improved so much that she recently signed a professional contract with Motherwell Ladies Football Club who play in the most senior league for ladies in Scotland.
Ashley says….
‘If it wasn’t for Moving the Goalposts I wouldn’t even have been interested in football at all. For the past 6 years I have been going regularly to Moving the Goalposts every time it was in our area.
When I first came down I was quickly knackered but over the years I got fitter and stronger, so much so that I joined a local girls football club. I trained two nights a week and played on a Sunday. Recently I signed for Motherwell Ladies who compete in the top female league in Scotland. Tony (Head Coach) encouraged me to get better and always said that I had more talent than I knew I had.
I didn’t believe the coaches at first but over the years I realised that I really liked to play football. I began to train and know how to look after my body. I was getting stronger and my confidence was sky high. With the support of the coaches I just went for it.
I can definitely say that if it wasn’t for Moving the Goalposts I would not have been involved in football at all. I wouldn’t be as fit and strong enough to play football at such a high level.
I would never have even thought about joining a team as I wasn’t confident enough. Thanks MTGP, I will always come down and take part even when I’m 60. (ha ha)’
