MTGP Employment Development Group: Attendee Coordinator

A multi-partnership MTGP Employment Development Management Group was set up to oversee possible employment, training and educational opportunities for attendees at MTGP. Many attendees are defined as ‘hard to reach by’ partners who have chaotic lifestyles and also suffer from extremely low self esteem levels with very limited life expectations. A large percentage of attendees reported experiencing severe difficulties and having low confidence levels when applying for employment, training and education opportunities and that they required much needed additional support measures to allow them to be successful in to achieving their potential.

A  MTGP Co-ordinators role was formed working with South Lanarkshire ‘Routes to Work’ whereby a MTGP attendee would act as a link for attendees between MTGP and its various partners to provide invaluable ‘hands-on’ assistance and continued support in the journey to employment, training, volunteering or further education opportunities for attendees.

MTGP identified an attendee who they felt that with sufficient support and training, could divide his time between MTGP and partners and act as the vital link to assist attendees on the journey to obtaining employment, training, volunteering or education opportunities. The coordinator would directly support attendees throughout the many stages of gaining employment etc.

Kieran proved to be an ideal link worker and as a result of the intensive training given became a much more confident individual and thrived in his role. Due to the experience and confidence he gained working as the co-ordinator, he was offered and accepted a permanent, full time job opportunity with a multi-national company.

‘Thanks to Moving the Goalposts and to everyone for the invaluable experience I gained working as the MTGP Link Worker. I feel bad leaving for another job but after talking with the coaches it was one that I could not turn down. I really hope that someone else who attends at MTGP takes up my old job as it was extremely worthwhile and can really help people.

I now have a permanent full time post with BP. Moving the Goalposts has really helped me over the years and I wouldn’t have got this job without their help and support’. Kieran

Discussions are on-going regarding the possibility of the role continuing with another attendee in post.
